After the events of the last 24 hours, weeks, and months, my heart is heavy. Evil is running rampant in our communities, and it’s impossible to ignore. From senseless acts of violence to attacks on people of faith, darkness seems determined to spread fear. Yet as followers of Christ, we know this battle is not fought with the weapons of the world, but with prayer, truth, and the light of Jesus.
I lift up prayers for the children who were ruthlessly murdered while praying.
I lift up the innocent Ukrainian woman, stabbed repeatedly while simply riding a bus.
I lift up the teenagers who were shot while walking to class yesterday.
And I lift up our brother in Christ, Charlie Kirk — assassinated while standing for free speech, now remembered as a martyr of the faith.
We are in the midst of a spiritual battle. Scripture reminds us: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Fear and violence are his weapons.
But here is the truth: evil cannot be defeated with more evil.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21 (NIV)
How Do We Fight Back?
We do not fight as the world fights. We do not fight with hatred, revenge, or weapons of destruction. We fight with the greatest power known to man: the power of prayer, the Word of God, and the light of Jesus Christ.
Pray Without Ceasing
Prayer is our battle cry. “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). Instead of scrolling endlessly or spreading division online, let us lift up our nation, our communities, and our enemies before the throne of God.
Stand on the Word of God
The Bible is our sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). To know Jesus is to know His Word. Read it, believe it, and live it out. Only then can we discern truth from the lies of the enemy.
Live Wholeheartedly for Christ
James tells us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22). Faith without action is dead. Following Jesus requires obedience — even when it costs us something.
Be a Light in the Darkness
Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). We must reflect His compassion, show love to the lost, and extend mercy to those deceived by the enemy. The world should see Christ in us.
Proclaim the Gospel Boldly
Paul declared, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). Whether in classrooms, workplaces, or neighborhoods, we must unashamedly share the good news that Jesus saves.
The Call to Action
Our nation does not need more hatred, more division, or more death. What this country needs is Jesus.
How many more lives must be lost before we realize that only Christ can heal the brokenness? As believers, we cannot remain silent. We must stand firm in the faith, fight the good fight (1 Timothy 6:12), and take ground for the Kingdom of God.
The war is here. The sides are clear. Each of us must choose where we stand in the battle between good and evil. Will we give in to fear and hatred, or will we rise in holy conviction, armed with the Word of God, prayer, and the love of Christ?
"...as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." — Joshua 24:15 (ESV)
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NIV)
"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love."
