Things aren’t the way they used to be.
In some cases, that’s a good thing. But most of the time—it’s not.
We live in a world that’s disordered and distracted. What once reflected biblical structure and purpose has been replaced by chaos, convenience, and compromise.
There was a time when moms stayed home with their children and fathers worked to provide.
Now, two incomes barely cover rent, and kids are raised by daycares and after-school programs.
Nobody cooks anymore—we microwave our meals or live off drive-thrus.
Screens steal our time. Social media feeds replace Scripture. Ads drown out truth. Patience is outpaced by instant gratification.
Once, people grew their own food and shared with neighbors.
Now, we won’t even walk into a grocery store—we have our cravings delivered to our doors.
Our food is poisoning us.
Hollywood has corrupted our entertainment.
Abortion is ending the next generation.
Marriage is abandoned.
Savings are a fantasy.
Things are worse off than they seem.
We live in a time where people have completely lost sight of their priorities.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
If we want to live with purpose, we need to stop chasing culture and start following Jesus.
Slow Down. Seek God.
The world will keep you busy, distracted, and exhausted. But God calls us to slow down—to rest in Him and realign with what truly matters.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” — James 4:8 (ESV)
Spending time with God is the foundation of living with eternal purpose.
Here are three ways I personally draw near to Him:
• Designated prayer time
• Reading Scripture regularly
• Worshipping throughout the day—whether in the car, at work, or at home
Though He gives us free will and forgiveness, our God is a God of order (1 Corinthians 14:33) and discipline (Hebrews 12:6). And His order brings peace—not chaos.
The World Lies. The Word Doesn’t.
Culture lies to us about everything—who we are, what we need, what makes us valuable.
But the Bible reveals the truth about who God is and how we can live to glorify Him.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” — Romans 12:2 (ESV)
We don’t need to blow our paycheck just because we had a bad day.
We don’t need to numb ourselves in clubs or bars.
We don’t need a new car, outfit, or gadget to feel worthy.
We can find peace in God’s timing.
We can trust that what we have is enough.
We can believe that He will provide—not the culture.
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19 (ESV)
What We Consume Shapes Us
From the music we play to the food we eat to the shows we binge—everything we consume shapes our hearts.
But Scripture is clear:
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you…?” — 1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV)
God cares about your body. He cares about your heart. And He wants every part of you to reflect His glory—not the world’s.
When we stop focusing on ourselves and fix our eyes on Jesus, the noise fades.
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” — Colossians 3:2 (ESV)
Jesus Was Countercultural. So Are We.
Many people today want to redefine Jesus as soft, tolerant, and non-confrontational.
Yes—Jesus taught love.
Yes—He ate with sinners.
Yes—He forgave sins.
But He also said:
“Go, and from now on sin no more.” — John 8:11 (ESV)
Jesus was intentional with His time. He lived in the world, but was not of it.
“They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” — John 17:16 (ESV)
As Christians, we’re called to live the same way.
We don’t follow culture. We follow Christ.
When You Live Differently, People Notice
Maybe you work in a toxic or high-pressure environment.
Maybe your friends and family don’t believe or aren’t sure what they believe.
That’s okay. Your consistency, joy, and peace in Christ will speak louder than any sermon.
Let them ask. Let them wonder. Let your life be a testimony.
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (ESV)
Don’t Settle for the World
Yes, we’ll fall short. Yes, we’ll make mistakes.
But we serve a God who sees our flaws and still chooses to redeem us.
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” — James 4:10 (ESV)
Having faith is countercultural.
Living for God takes courage.
But when you truly taste His goodness—you won’t want anything else.
Because God is so much better than what the world has to offer.
